A more standardized user experienceĪfter upgrading, longtime Fairphone owners might notice that Android 6.0 looks and works a bit more like the “regular” Android interface, and for a good reason. This version offers better support for microSD cards and external storage devices, treating them like internal storage so that it’s easier to save apps and data there. Storage is more flexible with Android 6.0. Multitasking has always been a bit tricky with Android, but this version offers better application performance and lower memory overhead, making it faster and easier to switch between tasks. Another takes a similar approach with apps you rarely use, and ensures they aren’t running in the background and draining your battery. One power-saving feature works by recognizing when your phone isn’t being used and puts it into “hibernation mode” to reduce processing and network activities. Finally, you can modify permissions at any time, using a new overview that’s organized by permission type so you can quickly see which apps can access your camera, photos, location and more (to find it, go to Settings → Apps → settings icon → App permissions).Īndroid 6.0 also offers major improvements in battery life. In addition, you can now keep using an app even if you decline some permissions (though certain functionalities might be impacted). For example, when you try to send a picture through WhatsApp, you’ll get a pop-up asking you to grant WhatsApp permission to use your camera. Android 6.0 will only ask you for an app permission at the moment it needs to access something. This version includes clearer permission system that offers more control over app permissions. But there are a few specific changes that we were very excited about, and we think you’ll love them, too:Īndroid 6.0 has generated lots of buzz for its long-awaited security improvements. Four reasons to get excited about Android 6.0Īndroid 6.0 offers lots of improvements over the previous version. We now have much better control over the entire software base, and will be able to turn around solutions much faster and more easily in the future. We also brought some new partners on board ( NE Device SW in Finland) to do the heavy lifting for a few specific developments.īut it was all worth it. It required a serious amount of investment and resources, including securing the licenses to the complete code base and the tools required to do the majority of the development and maintenance work for the Fairphone 2. While we hope your update experience is very smooth, getting everything ready behind the scenes was quite a feat. And the latest upgrade is a major one! In the coming weeks, Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be available on the Fairphone 2 for all existing and new Fairphone 2 owners. By offering software updates, we aim to keep your Fairphone 2 useful for as long as possible. The other half of the longevity equation is software. One way we’re achieving this is by focusing on easy repairs and affordable spare parts. With the Fairphone 2, we set out to design a phone that lasts longer than the average smartphone lifespan of two years. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits, changes and how we made it happen. This upgrade will offer Fairphone owners better security, longer battery life and improved functionality, to name just a few of the advantages. After months of hard work, our software team is excited to announce that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will soon be available for the Fairphone 2.

The numerical algorithms of cellular automata are extremely simple, basically a one-liner that defines the redistribution rule, with an iterative loop around it, but can produce the most complex dynamical patterns, similar to the beautiful geometric patterns created by Mandelbrot’s fractal algorithms (Mandelbrot 1977, 1983, 1985). These numerical simulations were, most commonly, cellular automata in the language of complexity theory, which are able to produce complex spatio-temporal patterns by iterative application of a simple mathematical redistribution rule. Consequently, Bak’s seminal paper in 1987 triggered a host of numerical simulations of sandpile avalanches, which all exhibit powerlaw-like size distributions of avalanche sizes and durations. These non-random time structures represent the avalanches in Bak’s paradigm of sandpiles. While white noise represents traditional random processes with uncorrelated fluctuations, 1/ f power spectra are a synonym for time series with non-random structures that exhibit long-range correlations. The term 1/ f power spectra or flicker noise should actually be understood in broader terms, including power spectra with pink noise ( P( ν)∝ ν −1), red noise ( P( ν)∝ ν −2), and black noise ( P( ν)∝ ν −3), essentially everything except white noise ( P( ν)∝ ν 0). 1987), initially envisioned to explain the ubiquitous 1/ f-power spectra, which can be characterized by a powerlaw function P( ν)∝ ν −1. We review SOC studies from the last 25 years and highlight new trends, open questions, and future challenges, as discussed during two recent ISSI workshops on this theme.Ībout 25 years ago, the concept of self-organized criticality (SOC) emerged (Bak et al. The novel applications stimulated also vigorous debates about the discrimination between SOC models, SOC-like, and non-SOC processes, such as phase transitions, turbulence, random-walk diffusion, percolation, branching processes, network theory, chaos theory, fractality, multi-scale, and other complexity phenomena. Attempts have been undertaken to import physical models into the numerical SOC toy models, such as the discretization of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) processes. The application of SOC concepts has been performed by numerical cellular automaton simulations, by analytical calculations of statistical (powerlaw-like) distributions based on physical scaling laws, and by observational tests of theoretically predicted size distributions and waiting time distributions. In the following years, an inspiring cross-fertilization from complexity theory to solar and astrophysics took place, where the SOC concept was initially applied to solar flares, stellar flares, and magnetospheric substorms, and later extended to the radiation belt, the heliosphere, lunar craters, the asteroid belt, the Saturn ring, pulsar glitches, soft X-ray repeaters, blazars, black-hole objects, cosmic rays, and boson clouds. ( 1987), the idea has been applied to solar physics, in “Avalanches and the Distribution of Solar Flares” by Lu and Hamilton ( 1991). Shortly after the seminal paper “Self-Organized Criticality: An explanation of 1/ f noise” by Bak et al. On medium heat, add ¼ cup ground pork (around 50–60 grams). vegetable oil, and when hot, add 2 minced shallots and 1 minced garlic clove and cook until they are slightly brown on the edges, about 5 minutes. Here’s my quick and easy recipe: Make your zhajiang first. But once you get your basics down, it’s as simple as making a salad dressing. It’s syrupy, and because sugar is a by-product of the fermentation process, it’s sweet.Īll these different types of fermented soy-based sauces and pastes can get really confusing, especially since they are all variations of salt, aged soybeans, and water. Tianmianjiang, on the other hand, is an aged sauce composed mostly of wheat flour, salt, and a bit of soybeans. But while texturally similar to miso, yellow soybean paste is much saltier. In a fermentation process similar to that of miso, time breaks down beans and grains into a condiment with punchy, complex layers of taste. Gan huangjiang is a chunky mixture of soybeans, salt, and water. A deep and pungent gravy originally from Beijing and its northern neighbors, traditional zhajiang is made with two main ingredients: gan huangjiang (fermented yellow soybean paste) and a bit of tianmianjiang (sweet fermented wheat paste). In Mandarin Chinese, the word zhajiang means “fried sauce,” and that sauce is composed of a hodgepodge of various aged and salty sauces slung together over high heat and then draped over wheat noodles to make zhajiangmian. Fireworks, thunder, or vacuum cleaners can have your sensitive kitty running for cover in an instant! This is no wonder that loud noises are scary for your cat. She’s also highly sensitive to vibrations that no human could possibly detect. Plus, her enviable night vision enables your cat to see in very dim light. This is phenomenal especially as your kitty doesn’t even need to move her head! Added to which, she can hear sounds in the low frequency spectrum which are inaudible to you. Your cat’s ears are like radar dishes, and able to rotate up to 180 degrees. Pinpointing exact locations even during low light is a skill only felines enjoy. In the wild, cats hone in on prey by following ultra high frequency sounds such as the squeak of a mouse. This is essential to her survival as a hunter. In addition, your cat’s senses are very different as well, with an amazing ability to hear sounds in very high frequencies. This is because her perception of the world around her is entirely different to yours. Your cat though will only experience music as meaningless sounds. So first I slice with slicer then I use Cura right? Is Cura inside the repetier package? O do I need to download it externally? It has far fewer tweakable parameters than Slic3R, but it gives me superior results nonetheless. Nevertheless, I tried Cura and immediately came to prefer it. My experience was that after several months of tweaking Slic3r parameters I got acceptable results. I should point that only the latest Windows version comes bundled with Cura. Download directly from the Repetier site, not from Velleman. I obtained Cura by downloading the latest version of Repetier Host, which comes bundled with Cura. Is it the file on the first thread still valid? Hello guys, Im a new printer guy, because im not so satisfied of the models created I want to try printing with CUra. I chose to adjust the extruder steps/mm in the firmware rather than lie about other parameters (for either slic3r or cura) I didn’t need to “fudge” any parameters to get good results from cura from the first time I tried it. I use cura exclusively except for vases because slic3r does a much better job for vases. I was fed up with my printer until I discovered that cura made far fewer travel moves and stays within perimeters for moves whenever possible. It is amazing how different peop0le get different results. I was having bad quality prints with Cura until I read the part about lying about the nozzle size.Īdjusting the extrusion multiplier or filament diameter probably does the same thing. The 509th Composite Group of the United States Army Air Forces was trained and equipped with the specialized Silverplate version of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, and deployed to Tinian in the Mariana Islands. By July 1945, the Allies' Manhattan Project had produced two types of atomic bombs: " Little Boy", an enriched uranium gun-type fission weapon, and " Fat Man", a plutonium implosion-type nuclear weapon. The war in the European theatre concluded when Germany surrendered on, and the Allies turned their full attention to the Pacific War. This undertaking was preceded by a conventional bombing and firebombing campaign that devastated 64 Japanese cities. In the final year of World War II, the Allies prepared for a costly invasion of the Japanese mainland. The Japanese government signed the instrument of surrender on 2 September, effectively ending the war. Japan surrendered to the Allies on 15 August, six days after the bombing of Nagasaki and the Soviet Union's declaration of war against Japan and invasion of Japanese-occupied Manchuria. The bombings killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the only use of nuclear weapons in an armed conflict. On 6 and 9 August 1945, the United States detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively. |
